LG Electronics Inks Wi-Fi Patent Licensing Deal with Amazon

LG Electronics has entered into a Wi-Fi standard essential patent (SEP) licensing agreement with Amazon in the United States. This agreement allows Amazon to utilize LG Electronics' Wi-Fi SEPs in its AI speakers, streaming devices, and other products. Amazon anticipates that this agreement will improve the performance of its key products, including Alexa, Fire TV Stick, and Fire Tablets.

LG Electronics has been building a patent portfolio related to Wi-Fi communication technology, and this agreement is considered a result of those efforts. Wi-Fi SEPs are essential for implementing Wi-Fi technology, allowing companies holding related patents to generate revenue through licensing agreements.

Since 2022, LG Electronics has been actively strengthening its intellectual property rights (IPR) business by adding "licensing of patents and other intellectual property rights" to its articles of incorporation.
