Opposition Party Attacks Ruling Party for Alleged 'Daejang-dong Appeal Abandonment' for Third Day; Ruling Party Claims 'Criminals Received $780 Million Windfall'
The People Power Party (PPP), the ruling party, is mounting a strong critique regarding the allegations of preferential treatment in the Daejang-dong development project. The PPP conducted a 'Field Visit to Demand the Recovery of 780 Billion Won in National Funds from the Daejang-dong Group' in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Representative Jang Dong-hyeok strongly criticized the abandonment of the Daejang-dong appeal, arguing that it resulted in enormous profits for criminals.
The PPP announced its intention to recover 780 billion won through the 'Special Act on Recovery of Daejang-dong Crime Proceeds,' which is expected to be proposed by Representative Na Kyung-won. The plan is to thoroughly recover criminal proceeds related to the Daejang-dong development corruption through the enactment of a special law and alleviate public frustration.
The PPP is scheduled to hold a 'Rally to Condemn the Abandonment of the Daejang-dong Appeal' in front of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and the Ministry of Justice on the 20th and 21st. Through this, they plan to publicize the unfairness of abandoning the appeal and urge the government and prosecution to conduct a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, Representative Chung Cheong-rae, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Daegu and held a field supreme committee meeting. The PPP leadership held a policy meeting with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss economic issues. The confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties continues over the abandonment of the appeal regarding allegations of preferential treatment in the Daejang-dong development.
